This is a list of detailed requirements for the EV project.

Safety Requirements

  • Low battery charge stop (settable based upon SOC)
  • Cannot drive if plugged in to charger
  • Battery boxes to isolate the batteries from the car
  • When charging, system is completely isolated from the drive/controller and chassis
  • Charger has a GFI
  • Accessory low battery charge stop
  • Emergency power cut-off
  • Must be stopped to shift from N to forward
  • Must be stopped to shift from N to reverse
  • A gentle chime when the vehicle is put into reverse
  • Hi temp on motor shutdown
  • Hi temp on controller shutdown
  • All switches linked to drive computer
  • Accessory battery for emergency use
  • Overvoltage protection for LiIon batteries
  • OVP will "dump" the regen current if not enough room for charging
  • Overtemp protection for LiIon battery pack
  • Fire protection system for LiIon pack
  • Detect ground fault between high voltage system and car frame
  • Detect ground fault between charger AC and car frame

Noise Suppression Requirements

  • rubber mounted motor to eliminate vibration and harmonic
  • rubber mounted controller to eliminate harmonic noise

Misc Features

  • Regenerative Braking
  • LED signal lamps and brake lamps
  • Anti-rollback for stopping on a hill
  • Electronic traction control
  • Informative idiot lights (NQIL - not quite idiot lights)
  • Faired mirrors
  • Warning if power steering brushes are worn
  • Use existing fuel gauge to indicate state of charge
